Track Lost iPhone with iOS 7

For all iPhone users, there is an interesting feature in the latest iOS 7 with regards with tracking your phone. Part of the upgrade in the iOS 7 is that a password will always be required if you want to turn off the Find My iPhone in your device. What does this mean? Well this means if your iPhone got lost, the thief would not be able to turn off the Find My iPhone unless he or she knows your password.

And if the thief thinks he is clever and would want to erase your device to avoid being tracked, well the latest update in the iOS 7 also requires a password before he or she would be able to erase the device. The people in Apple call this feature the Activation Lock. So, whenever you got your iPhone lost, you will be guaranteed that you will be able to track your phone whenever it is being activated.

The first step if you find your iPhone missing is to go to icloud.com/find. You can also use the Find my iPhone app from your friend’s iPhone or your iPad. You can then set your lost iPhone in Lost Mode and this will automatically set the device on a 4-digit passcode and also it will display a custom message with your phone showing on the device.

As long as the device is set as Lost Mode, you will be able to track the location through the Find my Iphone app or using the iCloud. Once you get it tracked, please report it to your local police station. Do not attempt to retrieve it by your own as it may endanger your life.


Find IMEI Number after You Lost Phone

The IMEI number of a phone is very useful especially to track your phone once it is lost or gone. If the phone is still with you now, you can easily retrieve your phone’s IMEI number by pressing *#06# on your phone keypad. Your phone will instantly show a string of numbers. This number represents the phones IMEI. Keep this number in a safe place or just screen shot the number and save the picture in your computer. This number might be useful for you to give it to your network operator for tracking purposes.

But what happen if you did not do this step and you just got your phone lost? How do you retrieve your phone’s IMEI number if you have lost your phone? There are several ways. One of it is to retrieve the number from the original packaging of the phone. For IPhone users, if you still keep the original box packaging, the IMEI number is at the back of the box in the Barcode area. It will show you the string of numbers that represents your phone’s unique IMEI number.

But what if you have thrown out that original packaging box? Is there any way you can retrieve your phone’s IMEI number? Luckily that some app in the market has the security feature of retrieving your phone’s SIM ID and also IMEI number even when it got lost. One of the app is the SeekDroid app.

However, just make sure you have already downloaded and installed the app in your smartphone. So, make sure to remember your mobile phone’s IMEI and store it someplace safe. This will prove to be useful if your mobile phone do get lost. You can immediately use this IMEI number by calling your operator and tell them that your mobile phone got stolen or lost.


Track Lost Android Phone using Android Device Manager

If you own an Android phone and somehow was stolen or lost, Google actually has a utility that can track your devices through what it calls the Android Device Manager or in short ADM. The Android Device Manager basically shows where the location of your Android Devices in a map is. But, in order to use it, you need to first register and list down your devices that uses Android in the Google website. By using the Android Device Manager, you can track your phone from a browser in your computer. Google will ask you to log in with your Gmail Account. Make sure that the Gmail account is the same as the one that you use for your phone. From there, it will show you a Map where interface and also the location of your Android device. As long as it is connected to a network or it does not run out from its battery, through this service, you can also be able to remotely wipe the data from your phone or force the phone to ring. However, please take precaution that if you believe your phone is being stolen; please contact the police if you want to retrieve your phone.
