First you can go to their site https://latitude.google.com. If you already have a Google account, it will automatically show your position in the landing page. This is made available by sharing your location in your personal settings. Google will remind you that if your location is shared, it will be made visible to everyone.

The second step is then to send email sharing your location to your close friends and family. What are the advantages of using this service? It will be extremely be useful if you are travelling alone somewhere and you want your friends and family to know where you are. So, in case bad things happened they will know where you are at all times.
